FAQs

What are the main types of kitchen cabinet materials?

Solid wood, plywood, MDF (medium-density fiberboard), and particleboard. Solid wood is durable but pricier; plywood offers stability; MDF/particleboard are budget-friendly and easy to paint or veneer.

 – Stock: Off-the-shelf sizes, fastest and cheapest.
 – Semi-custom: More size/finish options; some modifications possible.
 – Custom: Fully tailored to your space and specifications; highest cost and lead time.

Consider your countertop materials, backsplash, flooring, and lighting. Test color swatches in your space and think about resale appeal and maintenance (lighter colors show dirt more easily).

Proper installation, humidity control, regular cleaning, avoiding standing water, and using quality hardware (soft-close hinges, full-extension slides).

Typically by a professional carpenter or cabinet installer. They install the base and wall frames, secure to studs, level, plumb, and align drawers and doors. Some DIY-friendly kits are available for experienced homeowners.

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, ammonia, or solvent-based products on finished surfaces. Dry promptly.

Consider color, pattern, and durability. Lighter cabinets pair well with light countertops for a soft look; darker or contrasting countertops can create depth. Materials include quartz, granite, marble, solid surface, and laminate.

Minor scratches on painted surfaces can be touched up with matching paint or markers. For wood, a wood touch-up pen or wax stick can fill shallow scratches. Deeper scratches may require refinishing.

Remove any moisture source, dry the area promptly, and inspect for warping or swelling. Minor warp can sometimes be flattened by adjusting hinges or clamping and weighing down temporarily. Severe warping may require replacing panels or doors.

Solid wood is typically more tolerant to refinishing and can be more durable with proper care, but it expands/contracts with humidity. Plywood with a solid veneer can offer good durability with moisture resistance and often lower cost.
